Bohol (Nice Place)

Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills

These are the Chocolate Hills of Bohol. They look like anthills, but are actually hundreds of feet high. I think there are thousands of them on the island. No one knows how they were created, but I think my guide said that it was the result of sea erosion millions of years ago. Point is, they’re really weird.

While I was in Bohol, the president of the Philippines, Gloria Magpayal Arroyo (or GMA as they call her here), was visiting the island. Did I see her? No. She was off SCUBA diving or something. Beacuse of this, school was cancelled and kids were everywhere. Here are a few of ‘em singing and dancing along to traditional Bohol music, with songs like “Pokerface” (yeah, I know):

Yoda, The Evil Monkey, and Some Pretty Butterflies.

I found Yoda in the Philippines.

Well, not really, but this animal, a Tarsier, definitely looks like him. Tarsiers are the smallest primates in the world – they’re about the size of a baseball, with eyes the size of quarters (largest eye-body ratio of any animal). They’re native to the island of Bohol, Philippines, and unfortunately are an endangered species.

Now these monkeys were nice. All they did was sleep, hang on to the trees, and stare back at you. The other monkey, on the other hand, was an asshole. If you know the Evil Monkey from “Family Guy,” this guy is probably his uncle.

Now, he seemed pretty harmless until I went up close to take a photo. Out of nowhere, he grabbed the front of my camera and tried to pull it into his cage. Luckily, it didn’t fit. My dad wasn’t so lucky. More after the jump.
